In Maryland, assisted living programs care for seniors and vulnerable adults who may face a sudden medical emergency. State regulations require managers and staff in these settings to hold current CPR and first-aid certification so a trained responder is always available.

Assisted living managers and staff must hold basic CPR (with a hands-on component) and basic first aid certification from a nationally recognized organization, so someone on site can act at once in a resident emergency involving adults and seniors.

A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate is the way to meet this standard; it is required in addition to the worker's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
